Rail industry wins at Women In Construction & Engineering Awards

The rail sector was well-represented at the Women In Construction & Engineering Awards, with wins for London Underground, BAM Nuttall and Taylor Woodrow.

RTM was media partner for the event.

Emily Short, senior agent at BAM Nuttall, was awarded as the Best Woman Rail Engineer while Sharon Duffy, principal building services engineer at London Underground, won Best Woman Electrical & Mechanical Engineer.

Taylor Woodrow took home the only award for a man given out during the ceremony. Fred Garner, ‎deputy MD and director of rail, was recognised as the Best Male Mentor.

The event brought together more than 250 leading European executives in the world of construction, engineering and architecture, including Terry Hill, chairman of Arup Group Trust & non-executive director of Crossrail; Simon Kirby, CEO of HS2; and Mark Naysmith UK COO & MD at  WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Zars Media managing director Afi Ofori said: “The judging day process was filled with high quality nominees. It produced insightful presentations and productive dialogues between the finalists and speakers. The awards dinner was a great celebration of the achievements of all the finalists.
