Courageous BTP officer praised as London Bridge station reopens

London Bridge station has today reopened following the terrorist incident that took place in the capital on Saturday evening.

Network Rail had warned that police cordons were expected to be in place until at least 8am, but work was concluded earlier than expected as the station reopened at 5am this morning.

Passengers are still advised to check National Rail Enquiries and TfL’s website for the latest updates before they travel as disruption could occur at very short notice.

One member of the British Transport Police (BTP) has particularly received praise after he was seriously injured by one of the attackers who he had to fight off using only his baton. BTP has confirmed he is in a stable condition in hospital, although he is still “seriously unwell”.

“Having visited the officer in hospital shortly after he was admitted for treatment, I was able to hear his account of what happened last night,” said chief constable Paul Crowther.

“It became clear that he showed enormous courage in the face of danger, as did many others who were at the scene and rushed to help.”

Crowther added that the officer’s heroic actions were even more admirable considering he was a relatively inexperienced member of the police, having only joined the BTP less than two years ago.

“All of us at BTP wish him a swift recovery, and I know he will be touched by the hundreds of messages of support from across the UK and the world,” Crowther said. “Our thoughts are with all of those who died or were injured, and their loved ones as they try to come to terms with what happened.”

The heroic courage of this officer must be commended; as must the selfness actions of everyone who stood up to these demented murderers.

Just like what happened at Manchester few weeks ago. And Manchester Victoria station reopened after the dreadful attack that shocked the whole of Greater Manchester. But glad that London Bridge station has reopened and train services are back to normal with work still continuing at London Bridge as part of the Thameslink Programme which should be completed early/mid next year.

For christ's sake Andrew. Now is not the time. Talk about Thameslink can wait.

Andrew Gwilt   07/06/2017 at 12:31

And why do you need to be disrespectful Justin. Oh do be quiet.

Justin   08/06/2017 at 17:30

How am I being disrespectful? I'm saying that the Thameslink programme is not related to these unfortunate attacks.
