Don’t ask, don’t get
Is there a case for extending Crossrail into Reading?
Councillor Tony Page certainly thinks so, and has urged transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin to consider the benefits of additional capacity to the city.
As a cross-London scheme, it may be asking for far too much to extend the line up into Reading. But huge projects like this will have a significant impact on their neighbouring areas, simply by faster or nearer connections to main line rail services.
Tory Reading East MP Rob Wilson has pointed out that a slower service may not be the best way to tackle capacity issues. Even if implemented, would it actually bring the benefits Page outlines?
