Alton station now fully accessible

Improvements to Alton station have made it fully accessible, South West Trains has announced.

A new footbridge and lifts complement previous improvements which included a lower ticket window, the installation of an accessible toilet and automatic doors.

The scheme was funded by the DfT’s Access for All programme, South West Trains and Hampshire County Council.

Alistair Wright, head of station property for the South West Trains – Network Rail Alliance, said: “We are delighted to have completed this major accessibility improvement scheme for passengers at Alton which has been a key priority for us.

“We have already made a number of significant improvements at the station, including the installation of new lower ticket windows, automatic doors and toilet, but it is really with lifts that Alton now becomes fully accessible.”
