£4m refurbishment for Bromley South
Bromley South station has benefited from £4m investment, rail minister Norman Baker has announced. The improvements have been funded by the Government’s Access for All and NSIP programmes.
Bromley South has seen improved lifts, new waiting shelters, canopies, toilets and improvements to the concourse.
The Access for All scheme has funding totalling £370m and is supporting greater accessibility at more than 150 priority rail stations. NSIP has £150m over five years and has funded improvements at over 300 stations so far.
A further £200m is to be split between the schemes to upgrade more stations between 2014 and 2019. The next round of programmes will put an increased emphasis on schemes able to attract additional third party contributions.
Baker said: “Improvements like these make a real difference to those using the railways. Opening up access at stations and providing step-free routes can make a real difference to wheelchair users and other with limited mobility, as well as parents with buggies.
“And everyone feels the benefit of taking a train from stations with improved facilities and layout.”
Anthony Smith, Passenger Focus chief executive, said: “Our research clearly shows that passenger satisfaction with stations increases when the money invested in improvements is targeted at the things that matter most to passengers.”
