Crossrail communications contract goes to Siemens

Siemens has been awarded the Crossrail contract for communications and control systems for the central section of the railway.

The £43m contract includes the design, testing, installation and commissioning of key communications and control systems such as CCTV and public address systems at stations, customer information displays, staff and emergency services radio systems and data networks to carry information to and from the route control centre.

Design and testing will be carried out at Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire.

The contract includes commitments to boost apprenticeships and jobs for people living in London. Siemens will be required to offer seven new apprenticeships and five new job starts for people who are long-term unemployed or out of training or education for six months.

Installation of the systems is due to begin in spring 2015.
