SkillsID roll-out has been ‘as smooth as possible’

Seven months since its launch, NSARE’s SkillsID scheme has been widely taken up across the rail industry.

SkillsID is an online record of rail workers’ skills, competencies and qualifications. These records can be accessed and updated by employers, and accredited training providers.

It provides employers with access to a comprehensive Competency Management System, compliance with national requirements, potential administration savings, greater transparency, and an ability to link to industry minimum standards.

Automatic transfer of information from SkillsID into the New Sentinel system is also being developed.

Stuart Jones, NSARE’s head of process & systems said: “All of the team are committed to ensuring that the SkillsID implementation process is as smooth as possible for everyone concerned. It is a fantastic system, with many useful features, and will provide accurate and up-to-date data to help with skills forecasting and training requirements for the future.”

Companies who have signed up praised the simplicity of the process.

Karen Watson, competence systems manager, VolkerRail, said: “Uploading data takes seconds. The support from the NSARE team has been invaluable in making this transition a really easy one.”

Mike McCann, general manager, Carillion Rail Training, added: “Implementing the system was easier than we imagined and the help and support received from NSARE meant the whole process took no more than two days.”

And Darren Matthews, head of compliance, Ready Power Engineering, said: “Can’t ask for more.”
