Wet weather disrupts rail services across England and Wales
Severe weather over the last few days has led to significant disruption across the rail network, with many areas and services affected by flooding.
Trains between Great Malvern and Hereford are cancelled after a collapsed pipe caused a deep hole on the line in Colwall, which appeared after heavy rain. Network Rail said the line is hoped to reopen on Wednesday.
Services are also affected in Lancashire, with Wigan Wallgate services to Southport and Blackburn to Clitheroes closed due to flooding.
Trains between West Cheshire and North Wales have also been hit, and severe weather is also impacting Yorkshire and Shropshire. There is also major travel disruption in Devon and Cornwall and between Exeter and Bristol.
The Environment Agency has issued almost 60 flood warnings and the Met Office has warned that some areas could see a month’s rainfall in a single day.
A spokesperson for the Association of Train Operating Companies said: “Some rail services have been affected by flooding caused by heavy rain and we would like to apologise to passengers affected by the disruption.
“Train companies and Network Rail will continue to work together to solve the problems and ensure as many trains can safely run as possible.”
