Hull Trains starts operating first direct services from Beverley to London
The first direct service to London from Beverley departed this morning at 06.02.
First Hull Trains were finally granted permission to run the new early morning and late evening return service from Beverley to London by the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) this week. It follows months of negotiation with the rail regulator and a successful ‘test service’ last month.
Services started today, operating on weekdays trains leave Beverley at 6.02am, calling at Hull, Brough, Howden, Doncaster, Retford and Grantham, arriving at King’s Cross at 9.16am.
Return journeys follow the same route, leaving London in the evenings at 6.50pm and reaching the town at 9.46pm.
Will Dunnett, managing director at First Hull Trains said: “We’ve been working closely with the ORR over several months to introduce the new service, which we know the people of East Riding and Beverley have wanted for a long time. We know that our passengers love Hull Trains and our aim is to ensure that in 2015, the East Riding is connected to the capital via a direct service, as never before.”
Dunnett explained that the new service will bring direct travel benefits to passengers from right across the region as far as Scarborough and North Yorkshire. It also marks the start of what is hoped will be further opportunities to bring a direct service to other northern parts of the region.
The benefits of the new Beverley service include access to free, 4G-enabled, single-sign-up wi-fi across all carriages.
Dunnett continued: “Before the arrival of First Hull Trains, passengers in Hull had to change services if they wanted to travel to the capital. The convenience of a direct service cannot be underestimated and vastly improves the passenger journey by taking away the worry of needing to rely on connecting services.”
