Docklands Light Railway two-day strike called off
A two-day strike planned by workers on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in a dispute over the outsourcing of maintenance work has been called off.
Talks between the operators KeolisAmey and union bosses have secured an agreement and the “threatened changes have now been withdrawn”, the RMT union said.
Members had been due to walk out between 4.00am on Wednesday 28 January and 3.59am on Friday 30 January over plans to outsource jobs and activities and the introduction of new HR policies.
Mick Cash, RMT general secretary, said: “RMT is delighted to be able to announce that the determination and solidarity of our members across DLR has forced the pace in head to head talks with the operators, KeolisAmey, and as a result we have secured agreement on all of the issues the union had put into dispute.
“That means that the union has been able to suspend the strike action, action that would have led to a total shutdown of the DLR.”
Kevin Thomas, managing director of KeolisAmey Docklands, which took over running DLR last month after Serco lost the contract, said: “During the dispute all parties have worked tirelessly to address employees' concerns and business needs to prevent unnecessary disruption for our passengers.”
