Bridge demolition paves the way for Altrincham transformation

The demolition of Stamford New Roadbridge is now complete, ahead of the £19m redevelopment of Altrincham Interchange.

The disused footbridge had been closed for a number of years, and now it has been cleared, pedestrian access across the road will be improved. The bridge connected the Stamford Quarter to the current interchange, and was removed by firm M J Finnegan.

The fully integrated hub is due for completion in 2014, and will see a single ticket office, as well as links with buses, trains and trams. New cycling facilities will also be provided as part of the Greater Manchester Commuter Cycling Project.

TfGM is in the final stages of appointing a contractor to deliver the project as a whole, but the footbridge had to be demolished now to enable the wider redevelopment to start later this year.
