Sellafield director joins Crossrail independent advisory panel

The supply chain director of Sellafield, the nuclear fuel processing and decommissioning site, Martin Chown, is joining the independent advisory at Crossrail.

The government announced the appointment earlier today, saying that he will use his expertise working for Sellafield and the Institution of Civil Engineers Infrastructure Client Group.

The large-scale rail project in London, with 42km of tunnels, is entering its final year.

Responding to news of his appointment, Mr Chown said: “I’m delighted to be able to apply the lessons of the progress we’ve made at Sellafield to the Crossrail project.

“We’re one of the biggest infrastructure leaders in the UK and I’m looking forward to using Sellafield know-how and experience for the benefit of this project as well as bringing new ideas and experience back into Sellafield.

“This demonstrates the increasing awareness of Sellafield Ltd as an industrial leader not just in the north but across the entire country.”

According to the latest forecasts form Crossrail, new Elizabeth line services on the central section of the new railway should open between October 2020 and the end of March 2021.
