Free wi-fi now available on more than half of South West Trains

Free wi-fi on South West Trains has received a major extension, meaning it is provided on more than half of their services.

Wi-fi has been installed through a collaboration with Nomad Digital on South West’s class 450 trains, which run on services to destinations including Reading, Guildford, Aldershot, Farnborough and Southampton.

In total, more than 5,000 services with more than 700 carriages will have wi-fi.

Christian Roth, managing director for South West Trains, said: “More passengers are travelling with us than ever before and now more than half a million journeys are made on our services every day.

“We are investing millions of pounds to provide extra carriages, improved facilities and better stations to improve journeys for passengers and we’re confident the continued expansion of our free wi-fi will be a further boost.”

South West originally introduced free wi-fi on its class 444 Desiro trains, running on the main lines to Weymouth and Portsmouth, in September 2014.

All trains which have wi-fi available will be clearly labelled at each end of the carriage.

I would much rather that my south west train arrived and departed on time at every station along the route with the number of carriages as per normal, and not arrive with half the usual compliment, or go rushing past so that they can minimise their delayed charges, or that they stop modifying the timetable so that the journey takes longer, or add the extra two carriages that they have been promising since CP4, or stop teh platform staff yelling at people at Clapper's, or .... etc, etc. After all; who want's wifi when it is just a charter for the snoopers?

And also wi-fi will be fitted on the new 5-Car Class 707's Desiro City which 30 of them will be built by Siemens during this year and next year and should be in service next year.
