High speed plans for Scotland due

The Scottish Government is due to report on the business case for building a high speed link between Edinburgh and Glasgow. The project aims to reduce the journey time between the two cities to under 30 minutes by 2024.

The report will outline the costs and benefits of the proposal, transport minister Keith Brown said.

Speaking at Holyrood’s infrastructure committee, Brown said: “Cost-benefit ratio is a fundamental part of any transport projects we undertake. We are just starting that process now and that is why we will have the report coming forward in spring next year.”

The Scottish Government is also continuing to press the UK Government to extend HS2 Ltd up to Scotland. The current route plan for Phase 2 of HS2 runs from Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds.

As Scotland may be a foreign country to the UK before any High Speed track linking it to England occurs, and as it has been made clear in Scotland that there is no desire to have any other country involved in their railway, I cannot see why the UK should expend any resources at this time to such a scheme.
