NR to use Foundry Road site as electrification base after community concerns

Network Rail has announced that it will use the Foundry Road industrial site in Cleland as the base for electrification of the Shotts line.

Network Rail held meetings with relevant parties to discuss concerns from the local community about noise and light pollution from the Scottish site.

It will work with council environmental health officers to ensure that light and noise mitigation measures are in place.

A spokesperson for the electrification project said: “We appreciate that there was some disquiet in the community around the proposal, but we believe that we have approached the analysis and scoring of potential sites in an open and clear manner and reached the best overall decision.”

Last week, the ORR’s annual report into Network Rail Scotland warned that it is not on target to meet key milestones in its Edinburgh to Glasgow electrification programme.
