Southeastern fleet gets heavy duty ‘spring clean’

Southeastern has undertaken a heavy-duty spring clean of all its trains as part of £5.7m improvement project.

In the past two months, 339 trains have been scrubbed, vacuumed, shampooed and polished at Southeastern’s three major depots. Teams worked through the night at Gillingham, Ramsgate and Slade Green to spruce up lighting, signage, seating and toilets, as well as the outside of carriages, in a project involving more than 2,000 man-hours.

David Statham, managing director of Southeastern, says: “Our passengers deserve the highest levels of cleanliness and that’s why our trains are thoroughly cleaned nightly. Spring is the perfect time to set fresh standards and that’s what this extra deep-clean is all about. Our employees in the depots work incredibly hard to make our trains as clean as possible.”

In addition to the work on trains, Southeastern in April started £4.8m of cosmetic work to extend a clean sweep of 166 stations, including Pluckley, Longfield, Meopham  and Bearstead.
