Network Rail is set to invest in £83m worth of improvement works over Easter on 530 upgrade projects across the country.
Over 95% of the network will be unaffected by the work however there will be disruption on some routes.
The project will include resignalling and switches and crossings works at Clapham Junction and station enhancement works at Gatwick Airport.
Switches and crossing renewals at Bishops Stortford will take place whilst track upgrades will be undertaken on the Ebbw Vale Line.
HS2 works at London Euston and Watford North Junction will also take place along with HS2 enabling works at Hampton-in-Arden.
Andrew Haines, Network Rail Chief Executive commented on the upgrade projects set to take place over Easter.
Mr Haines said: “The majority of the railway will be open as usual this Easter for people to take a short break or visit loved ones.
“Some routes will be affected by our upgrade works, so we’re asking passengers to plan ahead and check their journeys in advance.
“We’ll be carrying out hundreds of vital projects that will improve passengers’ journeys in future.
“For example by improving reliability and boosting capacity on the network.”
The rail network can play a huge role in helping the country recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Passengers can play a huge role in this regard by returning to the rail network for both work and leisure.
