£9.2 Million Transformation: See How Southeastern Is Revolutionising Local Stations

Southeastern has delivered £9.2 million programme of station improvements, enhancing facilities for the growing number of customers using the network.

The investment has seen significant upgrades at stations across Kent, East Sussex and south east London, including deep cleaning, repairs and painting, improved lighting and installation of new signage, shelters and accessibility upgrades.

More than 130 stations have been deep cleaned and 27 have seen public areas repaired, painted or with new signage including Tunbridge Wells, Canterbury West and Woolwich Arsenal.

The programme supports wider efforts to improve the railway for customers, and compliments major ‘Access for All’ upgrades worth more than £50m delivered in partnership with Network Rail at Shortlands, Herne Bay and Plumstead stations.

South Eastern Railway’s Passenger Services Director David Wornham said:

“We know that stations are the gateway to the railway, and we want them to be welcoming, clean and accessible for everyone.

“We’re committed to making journeys better for all our passengers, and we know that even small changes like a fresh coat of paint or a new shelter can make a big difference.

“We are continuing to invest in our stations to create places that passengers and local residents can take pride in.”

Other highlights from the programme include:

  • £400,000 invested in new toilets at Tonbridge, Bearsted, Ramsgate, Westcombe Park, Greenwich and St Mary Cray.
  • £375,000 spent on more than 230 new seats across the network.
  • £366,000 for a major refurbishment of Kearsney and Shepherds Well stations with new facilities electrics, lighting and flooring.
  • £862,248 invested in improved and refurbished waiting facilities.

These investments form part of the South Eastern Railway’s wider ambition of building a better, more reliable and sustainable railway.

The number of customers travelling with Southeastern is continuing to grow and last month, Southeastern recorded a total of 1.37m journeys for the year, up 9% on the previous year.
