Scheidt & Bachmann Fare Collection Systems and Greater Anglia have extended their long-standing relationship with a new five-year agreement, reinforcing a partnership that has been helping shape rail ticketing innovation across the UK for more than 20 years.
The agreement, which came into effect on 1 July 2026, marks another milestone in a collaboration that began in December 2002 when the first Scheidt & Bachmann ticket vending machines (TVMs) were installed at Colchester station. Since then, the two organisations have worked closely to modernise ticket retailing and improve the passenger experience across the Greater Anglia network.
Today, Scheidt & Bachmann maintains and supports a fleet of 268 ticket vending machines across the network, including both cash-and-card and card-only units. The estate consistently achieves device availability exceeding 99.8%, ensuring passengers have reliable access to ticket purchasing facilities whenever they travel.
Over the years, Greater Anglia has earned a reputation as one of the UK's most progressive train operators when it comes to adopting new ticketing technologies. The operator was among the first rail companies to introduce Scheidt & Bachmann's latest TVM Application and was also an early adopter of the company's Paper Roll Ticketing (PRT) solution across its ticket machine estate. These innovations have helped support the wider rail industry's transition away from older ticketing technologies while improving operational efficiency and customer convenience.
Ken Cameron, Managing Director UK & Ireland at Scheidt & Bachmann Fare Collection Systems, said:
"We are delighted to extend our partnership with Greater Anglia for another five years.”
“Over more than two decades of collaboration, Greater Anglia has consistently embraced innovation and worked closely with us to deliver industry-leading ticketing solutions. This new agreement reflects the strength of our relationship and our shared commitment to providing reliable, efficient and future-ready services for passengers."
Malcolm Cotter, Head of Retail Systems at Greater Anglia, added:
"Scheidt & Bachmann has been a trusted partner for more than two decades and has played an important role in supporting our retailing strategy. Together, we have introduced several innovative developments that have improved operational performance and the customer experience. We look forward to continuing this successful partnership over the coming years."
The renewed contract provides a platform for continued innovation in rail retailing, allowing Greater Anglia to leverage the latest developments in fare collection technology while maintaining the high levels of reliability passengers have come to expect. As the rail sector continues to evolve, the extended partnership demonstrates the value of long-term collaboration in delivering modern, efficient and customer-focused ticketing solutions.
