TransPennine Express has announced the appointment of Fiona Roberts as its new Finance Director, bringing a wealth of experience in financial transformation and operational leadership to the role.
Born in Manchester, Fiona joins TPE with a strong track record of delivering results in fast-paced, complex organisations. She previously spent six years at Network Rail, including three years as Financial Controller, gaining deep insight into the financial and operational challenges of the UK rail sector.
Most recently, Fiona led a multi-year transformation project at TalkTalk Group, where she successfully improved financial processes, upgraded systems, and strengthened reporting – helping the company navigate a period of significant change.
Commenting on her new role, and on the rail industry, Fiona said:
“I’m really looking forward to working with the team at TPE, who are forward-thinking and ambitious, and where customer satisfaction is at the heart of everything they do.
“At this point in time, what excites me the most is the chance to work with TPE and industry leaders to shape the future of the railway and Great British Railways, while continuing to improve services for customers.
"It’s an exciting time to be part of the business and contribute to its growth.”

Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for TPE, which operates 2,650 services daily across the North of England and Scotland, connecting major cities and supporting regional growth.
Fiona’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in driving financial resilience, supporting strategic investment, and enhancing operational efficiency across the business.
