Former BA boss joins Network Rail as non-executive director

Article by Callum Wood of Rail Technology Magazine

Former CEO of Cunard Cruise Line and senior director at British Airways David Noyes will join Network Rail as a non-executive director.

Noyes has experience in leading corporate organisations and focuses on improving public service whilst at the same time ensuring cost efficiency.

He is also known to be a skilled manager of developed businesses which is a crucial attribute for leading a safety critical industry.

The previous chief executive Michael O’Higgins announced his retirement and will be leaving the board on the 31st August 2018.

Sir Peter Hendy, CBE and chair of Network Rail, said: “Having someone with David’s background and experience, particularity in customer services and managing devolved businesses, will be a great asset to the Board as Network Rail continues its transformation journey into a more customer focussed, devolved group of businesses.”

Mark Carne, the current chief executive, will also be retiring on 13 August and the new chief executive, Andrew Haines will take over on 14 August. Mark will continue working for Network Rail until early September, finishing off his work on the CP6 (Control Period 6 – 2019 to 2024) funding settlement.

Hendy noted: “I’d like to thank Michael for his time with us and his successful contribution to the Board.”

O’Higgins was appointed a member of Network Rails board in 2012, having formally been a non-executive director and chair of audit at HM Treasury.
