RSSB launches competition to boost railway’s operational performance
The Train Operator Competition 2017 (TOC17) has been launched today which looks to find innovative solutions to improving the performance of the railway.
The £3.25m competition, launched by the RSSB, is designed to encourage greater collaboration between two or more railway undertakings and/or rolling stock leasing companies and suppliers.
It is hoped that this broader participation will encourage potential solutions to key railway challenges that will focus on the needs of the end-user customers and have the best chance of reaching the market.
Proposals are likely to address one or more of the 4Cs (cost, carbon, capacity and customer), and should align with the challenges and themes outlines in the Rail Technical Strategy and/or the 2017 RTS Capability Delivery Plan.
Following initial work with operators, areas identified as priority challenges are operations timed to the second, minimal service disruption, and energy optimisation.
However, participants are not limited to these themes. The competition welcomes entries from train or freight operating companies and infrastructure managers working collaboratively with suppliers.
There will be a briefing and networking even in Birmingham on Monday 11 December.
