£15.9m contract for new regional Operating Centre
Morgan Sindall has won a £15.9m contract to construct Network Rail’s North West Operating Centre.
The centre will be based in Gorton, Manchester and will provide a base for operations within the region, as well as accommodation for personnel and control equipment.
The building is designed to meet BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, with a composite structure including a variety of specialist design and construction methods and techniques, such as laminated, strengthened glass panels and curtain wall cladding.
A green roof will see planting of sedum vegetation to absorb rainwater and provide insulation.
110 workers will be involved at the peak of construction and the centre is dus for completion by December 2013.
James Morgan, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: “We are delighted to have won this significant contract which is a testament to the combined expertise of our Rail and Construction teams.
“Our collaborative and full Building Information Modelling (BIM) level two approach will deliver a bespoke solution to Network Rail and provide them with a state-of-the-art home for many years to come.”
