Freight train derails in Northumberland
A freight train has derailed in Northumberland as it delivered coal from Blyth to Cottam power station.
The train, operated by DB Schenker, came off the tracks Monday night but remained strewn across the line throughout Tuesday.
Nobody was injured in the derailment, which saw the engine end up lying on its side in a bush nearby the track, one wagon teetering on its side while another sat across the track in both directions.
A spokesman from DB Schenker Rail said: “We can confirm that one of our services derailed at the West Sleekburn junction at approximately 7.45pm on 17 November.
“We deployed a highly trained team to the site to work closely with the relevant parties, establish a cause and minimise disruption.
“An investigation is under way and we await the findings of that.”
RTM contacted the Rail Accident Investigation Branch to confirm they were looking into the accident but they did not respond by the time of publication.
