HS2 has launched its sixth Innovation Accelerator programme in a bid to open up new avenues of technology.
The project is in collaboration with the Connected Places Catapult and will look to new and existing companies to offer innovative technologies that can:
- Speed up the design process
- Automate construction handover
- Strengthen the circular economy during site decommissioning
Applications for the Innovation Accelerator will be open until 28 April through the Connect Places Catapult. Up to six organisations will be chosen to join the programme this June.
After approximately five months of development within the programme, the companies’ innovations will be showcased and pitched to industry investors and the wider HS2 supply chain.
“HS2 is at peak construction in 2024 and there’s still a vast amount to do on what remains Britain’s largest investment in transport infrastructure,” said Jon Kelly, senior innovation manager at HS2.
He added: “It therefore offers a huge opportunity to develop and or hone technologies to help deliver Britain’s new high speed railway.
“HS2’s innovation accelerator is a metaphorical laboratory and test bench to develop new tech solutions to drive improved productivity and efficiencies for the high speed rail programme and future projects – both large and small.”
