Northern, the second largest train operator in the UK, has appointed John Lombard as its new Head of Architecture within the IT department.
Lombard assumed the role earlier this month and reports to David Sparling, Head of IT at Northern, who joined the company in April. As Head of Architecture, Lombard will lead a team responsible for developing innovative software solutions and establishing a sustainable IT infrastructure to support the company's long-term goals.
A native of Zimbabwe and a resident of Skipton, North Yorkshire, Lombard holds a degree in computer science from the University of Johannesburg. Prior to joining Northern, he gained experience working for Anchor, the UK's largest provider of housing and care for older adults, and Anglo American, a multinational mining company.
David Sparling expressed emphasised the complexity of Northern's IT challenges and the valuable contributions Lombard will make to the team as they modernise the company's IT estate.
John Lombard expressed his excitement about joining Northern and working with his team of IT architects to deliver effective solutions that address the needs of colleagues across the North of England.
