Passengers travelling through Peckham Rye Station are set to benefit from a series of significant improvements following the completion of the latest phase of enhancement works led by Network Rail.
The upgrade includes a wider gateline, additional passenger information screens and enhanced CCTV coverage, all designed to improve safety, reduce congestion and support growing passenger numbers at one of south London's busiest rail interchanges.
A key part of the improvements has been the expansion of the station's gateline. Network Rail has installed 50% more ticket gates, adding two new barriers to help ease long-standing bottlenecks that often saw passengers queuing on both sides of the booking hall and up stairways during peak periods.
The enlarged gateline is expected to improve passenger flow between the booking hall and platforms, reducing waiting times and making journeys through the station quicker and more efficient.
Additional passenger information screens have also been installed on Platforms 1 and 2. Positioned further along the platforms, the new displays are intended to encourage passengers to spread out more evenly and make full use of available platform space. The move is expected to reduce crowding on platforms and onboard trains, helping create a more comfortable travel experience.
Meanwhile, CCTV systems across the station have been upgraded to improve monitoring capabilities and support passenger safety.
The latest works form part of a wider transformation programme at Peckham Rye, focused on delivering practical improvements while preparing the station for future growth.
Earlier phases of the scheme included alterations to the booking hall that uncovered a hidden section of the historic station building for the first time in three decades. The project created additional circulation space for passengers at what has become one of south London's most important interchange hubs.
Andrew Wood, Network Rail’s Senior Commercial Scheme Sponsor, said:
“These improvements at Peckham Rye will make a real difference for passengers, creating more space, easing congestion and making it quicker and easier to move through the station.
“This is an important step in ensuring the station can manage the growing numbers of passengers using it while also enhancing the user experience. I’d like to thank passengers for their patience while we carried out this work.”

Work on the current phase began in May 2026, with the wider programme scheduled for completion in late summer 2027.
Looking ahead, Network Rail plans to open two additional station entrances to further improve access and circulation. Future phases will also tackle narrow sections of Platforms 3 and 4, alongside refurbishment of platform canopies, creating more space and a better waiting environment for passengers.
The continued investment reflects growing demand at Peckham Rye and the need to ensure the station can accommodate increasing passenger numbers while maintaining a safe and efficient travel experience.
