Cycle hire scheme for Norwich

Greater Anglia has launched a cycle hire scheme at Norwich rail station, allowing passengers to book bikes at the same time as purchasing train tickets.

30 bicycles are available for pre-booking at the station, and form part of a strategy to promote transport integration and sustainable modes of transport.

Chloe Smith MP, who attended the launch, commented: “It's important to have rail services linking properly to the ways people need to get round the city. As leader of the East Anglian Rail Prospectus campaign in Parliament, I welcome sensible investment that promotes Norwich as a place where both business and leisure passengers can travel smoothly. It's about encouraging jobs to the city as well as simple convenience.”

Ruud Haket, managing director, Greater Anglia said: “I am extremely pleased that our work to promote and encourage travel to stations by cycle is being extended through this initiative.

“By working with Government and our partners in local authorities, through innovative schemes such as Station Travel Plans, we are playing our part in offering more and effective green travel choices for the communities we serve.

“We committed to provide cycle hire facilities as part of our franchise bid, so we are pleased to fulfil that promise on time and hope that many passengers including visitors to Norwich will take the chance to cycle round this Fine City.

“We will continue to work with partners to further upgrade cycle facilities, across our network.”
