Why not allow Alstom to build new EMU trains for Greater Anglia that could operate on the Great Eastern: London Liverpool Street-Southend Victoria, Braintree, Clacton-on-Sea, Ipswich, Chelmsford and Colchester routes aswell Essex's branch lines including Colchester-Walton-on-the-Naze, Wickford-Southminster, Colchester-Colchester Town and Manningtree-Harwich Town as Bombardier are to build the EMU Aventra's for West Anglia: London Liverpool St-Hertford East, Cambridge and King's Linn routes, Mainline: London Liverpool St-Norwich intercity service and Stansted Express: Liverpool St-Stansted Express service and Stadler to build the Bi-Mode Flirts for Regional branch lines in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire aswell the Marks Tey-Sudbury line in Essex and to operate between Liverpool St-Lowestoft. Also Stansted Express or Greater Anglia may operate the new Norwich-Stansted Airport, Ipswich-Stansted Airport and Peterborough-Stansted Airport services via Cambridge.

What? Greater Anglia has signed contracts with Bombardier and Stadler. Why do we suddenly need to 'allow' Alstom to build another fleet. The Norwich intercity and Stansted Express services will be a Stadler FLIRT fleet, not Aventras.

@Andrew Gwilt - Why do you feel the need to type out all the Greater Anglia lines ? If anyone is interested, they can look them up. Anway, Greater Anglia have already bought all the their new trains, so why would they be interested in a new and untested design ?

@David & Jimbo.Ok I am wrong and you guys are correct. GA are ordering the Stadler Flirts and Bombardier Aventras. And yes Alstom are still in progress on manufacturing their brand new trains that could be built for other train operators such as Southwestern Trains and Southern to replace the Class 455's, Class 456's and Class 313's. And Alstom could also manufacture new trains for Scotrail to replace the Class 314's and Class 318's. Depends on if other manufacturers are also planning to build new trains for Scotrail as Hitachi are already manufacturing the new Class 385's for Scotrail.

Alstom are not manufacturing any rolling stock for the UK at the moment. They have not been awarded any contracts.

Ah but Alstom have already manufactured and built the London Underground 1995 and 1996 tube stocks for the Northern Line and Jubilee Line and also have built the Class 175 "Coradia" DMU, Class 180 "Adelante" DMU and Class 390 "Pendolino" EMU rolling stocks.

I know that Alstom (and before them, Metro-Cammell) has manufactured rolling stock at Washwood Heath in the past. What I'm saying is that they don't have any contracts at the moment. Although it's interesting to note that they will be responsible for maintenance of the new CAF-built fleets for Northern and TPE.
