HS2 Ltd awards four-year BIM contract to Atkins
Atkins has been awarded a four-year contract to provide Building Information Modelling (BIM) services to HS2 Ltd.
As part of the £1m contract, Atkins will provide professional support covering the planning and delivery of a range of activities including BIM educational and assessment tools for the supply chain.
On top of this, the company will help drive long-term efficiency and durability into asset management.
Mark Roberts, director of Atkins, said: “Adoption of BIM will revolutionise programmes like HS2, materially improving delivery efficiency and success, and embedding an approach that looks beyond design and construction into the requirements and benefits for the whole operational life of the railway.
“We are delighted to have been chosen to work alongside our HS2 and supply chain colleagues to implement a BIM approach that we believe will be ground breaking, deliver great success and ultimately help support the UK’s economic prosperity.”
During last year’s HS2 Supply Chain conferences, Alistair Kirk, programme and strategy director at HS2 Ltd, said that HS2 intends to establish a programme-wide approach to building information modelling (BIM) that establishes a “common flow of working to deliver maximum efficiencies and value for money” across the whole life of the programme.
Also last year a study found that Level 2 BIM maturity as a minimum standard was a realistic and achievable goal for HS2 and its future supply chain. The study found that 94% of the supply chain already uses BIM and 60% have a BIM strategy with defined goals.
On top of this, BIM Level 2 – which aims to create a common data environment throughout the supply chain – will be mandated on all major government projects by 2016.
