TfGM boss to chair pteg
Dr Jon Lamonte, chief executive of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), has been named the new chair of pteg (Passenger Transport Executive Group).
Pteg brings together and promotes the interests of the six strategic transport bodies – Greater Manchester (TfGM), Merseyside (Merseytravel), South Yorkshire (SYPTE), Tyne and Wear (Nexus), West Midlands (Centro) and West Yorkshire – which serve more than 11 million people in the largest city regions outside London.
Following his appointment, Dr Lamonte said there is a firm consensus around the need for high-quality, integrated urban public transport networks that can underpin the key role that our cities play in driving regional economies and promoting growth
He added: “This is now matched by an understanding of the need to improve the strategic links between our cities through initiatives around High Speed Rail, Rail North, Midlands Connect and Transport for the North.
“My colleagues and I are right at the heart of turning these concepts into reality through delivering investment programmes which encompass mass transit and heavy rail systems, smart and integrated ticketing, better bus services and supporting active travel.”
Dr Lamonte replaces outgoing chair David Brown, the chief executive of Merseytravel, who has completed his two-year term in office.
