Colas Rail has welcomed two new Tampers into its fleet as it steps up its capabilities to complete track works at line speed and avoid delays on the UK’s rail network.
The addition of the two 09-4x4/4S Tampers enforces Colas Rail’s position as a key supplier to Network Rail of On Track Machines in the UK and is the latest example of the company’s commitment to innovation.
Paul Conway, Head of Engineering and Compliance said: “This continued investment in new machines demonstrates Colas Rail’s commitment to having a modern fleet of machines to ensure the best operational performance for the client.
“[This investment demonstrates] our commitment to carbon reduction by replacing 20+ year old Tampers with machines that have the latest EU Stage 5 emissions compliant engines.”
The two locomotives, DR75016 and DR75017, began fabrication in February last year in Linz, before being transported to the UK earlier this year for final commissioning and calibration.
The Tampers will now undergo a rigorous shakedown at the Severn Valley Railway before going into contract with Network Rail.
Both Tampers will enter operations in the Western region. Colas will work with Network Rail to deploy the Tampers to complete track works at line speed, avoiding delays and providing a safe and reliable service.
This news reaffirms Colas Rail’s commitment to improving its On Track Plant fleet through innovation, and follows on from extensive work regarding sustainable diesel alternatives such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil and Solid Oxide Fuel Cells.
