The West Yorkshire Combined Authority has opened a public consultation into possible routes for West Yorkshire Mass Transit phase one.
Phase one of the new transport system will create a better connected and greener West Yorkshire with the introduction of a tram network, with routes in central and south Leeds and a new link between Leeds and Bradford.
Over the next 11 weeks, members of the public are invited to express their preferences regarding the potential routes for all three lines.
The proposals presented by the Combined Authority also outline a sustainability strategy concerning the delivery of a new Mass Transit network and protecting the long-term needs of the environment, society and the economy.
The Leeds Line is divided into two sections which will form one continuous tram service through the city between St James’ University Hospital and the White Rose Shopping Centre.
There are four options for Leeds city centre route, which all start from the hospital. The options aim to connect key landmarks and offer a range of benefits such as enhanced access to jobs, universities, colleges and hospitals.
There are three proposed routes for the South Leeds section, which enhance connections from the city centre to the White Rose Shopping Centre, supporting retail, leisure destinations and nearby business parks and promoting housing and development.
Meanwhile, there are three options for the Bradford Line, which will form a direct connection by tram to Leeds. The proposed routes would redefine the journey between the two city centres, ensuring better access to essential destinations, driving economic growth and linking communities.
