Transport UK Group has confirmed that East Midlands Railway (EMR) Managing Director, Will Rogers, will leave the business on 27 July 2026, bringing to a close more than six years at the helm of the operator.
Having joined EMR in January 2020, just weeks before the Covid-19 pandemic transformed the transport industry, Rogers guided the railway through one of the most challenging periods in its history. Under his leadership, EMR maintained vital services for key workers while prioritising the safety and wellbeing of colleagues throughout successive lockdowns.
During his tenure, Rogers oversaw significant changes across the business, including the withdrawal of the iconic High Speed Trains (HSTs), the launch of EMR Connect services, extensive fleet refurbishment programmes and the introduction of the new Aurora trains. He is widely credited with helping shape the organisation’s culture while championing both customers and employees.
Transport UK said Rogers’ commitment, passion and care for the EMR team would leave a lasting legacy across the business.
Rogers has chosen to step away from the role to spend more time with his family.
Commenting on his departure, Transport UK CEO Dominic Booth said:
“Will stepped in to lead EMR shortly after we first secured the contract. He has been instrumental in delivering exceptional service to our customers and has embodied the Transport UK delivery-first mentality. In recent weeks, Will has also given his all in responding to the tragic incident at Bedford South. I would like to thank Will for all his efforts and wish him the best in the future.”
Reflecting on his time leading the railway, Will Rogers said:
“It has been a privilege to lead EMR since 2020 and to support our teams through a period of significant change."

But it is the right time for me to step back and spend some more time with my family, and I would like to thank you all for your support, your friendship and for allowing me to be part of this journey. It has been a privilege.”
Neil Grabham Returns to EMR
Transport UK has announced that Neil Grabham will become Interim Managing Director of East Midlands Railway.
Grabham joins from Merseyrail, where he has served as Managing Director for the past three years. During that period, Merseyrail established itself as one of the UK’s leading train operators, earning recognition for strong operational performance and high levels of customer satisfaction. Prior to his move to Merseyrail, Grabham held the position of Customer Services Director at EMR, giving him valuable insight into the railway’s opportunities and challenges. He will work alongside the EMR Leadership Team during the transition period, with a continued focus on safety, fleet performance and customer service.

The appointment provides continuity for EMR as the operator continues its fleet modernisation programme and customer service improvements across the East Midlands network.
