AECOM has strengthened its rail leadership team with the appointment of Andrea Green as director for rail and transit, UK and Europe, as the global infrastructure consultancy positions itself to support a growing pipeline of rail investment and major infrastructure programmes.
Green joins AECOM from Alstom, where she served as business development director and played a key role in developing and delivering the company's UK growth and resilience strategy.
Bringing three decades of experience spanning engineering, project delivery, business development and executive leadership, Green will be responsible for driving the continued expansion of AECOM's rail business across the UK and Europe. A civil engineer by profession, she will focus on strengthening strategic client relationships while helping to integrate the company's multidisciplinary expertise across major schemes including Network Rail's Southern Renewals Enterprise, the Leamside Line programme and Sweden's North Bothnia Line.
Her appointment also sees her join AECOM's Europe and India Transportation leadership team and follows the recent arrival of Darren Cook, who joined the business in September as director for highways and streets.
"There’s a huge opportunity ahead for AECOM in rail, with major programmes like Northern Powerhouse Rail moving forward alongside wider investment and change across the industry," said Steve Higham, managing director for transport, Europe and India, AECOM.
"We have a strong rail business underpinned by a breadth of capabilities and global expertise that puts us in a great position to support clients as those plans take shape."
"Andrea is a perfect fit for where we want to go next. She has a strong track record of building successful businesses, developing lasting client relationships and getting the best out of teams. Her leadership will help us build on our existing strengths and capitalise on the opportunities ahead."
AECOM's latest leadership appointment comes at a time when significant rail investment plans continue to reshape the UK's transport landscape, creating new opportunities for infrastructure delivery, renewals, decarbonisation and network enhancement programmes.
Speaking about her new role, Green said:
"This is a pivotal time to be joining AECOM."
"There’s significant investment going into the railway and a real opportunity to think differently about how projects are planned and delivered. Rail has a vital role to play in connecting communities, supporting economic growth and enabling a more sustainable transport system. I’m looking forward to working with colleagues, clients and partners across the industry and playing a part in delivering the next generation of rail infrastructure."
Alongside her position at AECOM, Green continues to serve as vice chair of the Railway Industry Association's Exports Leadership Group, supporting collaboration between industry and government to help UK rail suppliers access international opportunities. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability.
