Great news for commuters and visitors to London! Network Rail and Lambeth Council have teamed up with a host of partners to develop a vision for the future of London Waterloo station and the surrounding area.
This ambitious long-term plan aims to transform Waterloo into a more user-friendly and vibrant space. Improvements are on the horizon for both the station itself and the wider neighbourhood. The focus will be on:
- Enhanced connectivity: Making it easier and safer for people to get around,
- Thriving local economy: Supporting businesses in the area.
- A more welcoming environment: Improving the overall experience for everyone who uses the station and surrounding area.
Waterloo Station is already a major transport hub, serving millions of passengers each year. This project aims to build on that success and make Waterloo an even more attractive destination.
The first steps are already underway. Lambeth Council, Network Rail and their partners will be making short-term investments to kick-off the vision. There will also be further opportunities for residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to have their say and help shape the detailed proposals.
Network Rail chair, Lord Peter Hendy of Richmond Hill, said: “We are delighted to be working with Lambeth Council on an exciting long-term plan to transform London Waterloo station.
“London Waterloo is iconic, and one of the busiest stations in the country, and it is imperative this station continues to evolve to ensure it is a world class transport hub and meets the needs of the millions of passengers that use the station each year, today and into the future.
“This a significant but first step towards realising this ambition, and there is a great deal of work to do to progress this forward and find funding. We look forward to working with our wider partners, passengers, local businesses and organisations, and the local community, as we refine these plans.”
