Mott MacDonald and Roughan & O'Donovan Secure Place on €600M Irish Rail Consultancy Framework

Mott MacDonald, in partnership with Roughan & O'Donovan, has been appointed to Iarnród Éireann's Multi-Party Framework for Project Multi-Disciplinary Consultancy Services, a major agreement expected to play a key role in shaping the future of Ireland's rail network.

The framework, with an estimated value of €600 million, will provide advisory and design consultancy services across Project Management Procedures Phases 1 to 5. The scope covers the full project lifecycle, from initial concept development and feasibility studies through to planning support, statutory processes, detailed design and tendering activities.

The agreement has been awarded for an initial five-year period, with an option to extend for a further three years.

Under the framework, the two engineering consultancies will provide multidisciplinary expertise to support projects across Iarnród Éireann's capital investment programme, helping to deliver the next phase of rail enhancements and capacity improvements across Ireland.

The award further strengthens Mott MacDonald's long-standing relationship with the national rail operator and reflects the growing momentum behind rail investment in Ireland. The consultancy has recently supported a series of high-profile projects, including the CONNECT programme, the Glounthaune to Midleton Twin Tracking project, and the Drogheda BEMU charging station.

Commenting on the appointment, Tony O'Toole, Mott MacDonald's Managing Director of Transport for UK and Europe, said:

"Ireland is entering a significant period of rail investment and renewal, and we're delighted to continue supporting Iarnród Éireann at such an important time.”

“Combining the strength of our local team with expertise from across our global rail business, we look forward to working with Irish Rail and Roughan & O'Donovan to help deliver the next generation of rail projects."

The framework arrives at a pivotal time for Ireland's railway sector, with substantial investment planned to improve network capacity, sustainability and passenger experience. By combining local knowledge with international rail expertise, Mott MacDonald and Roughan & O'Donovan are well positioned to support the delivery of critical infrastructure projects over the coming years.
