New facilities at Coventry boost passenger experience with £82m investment

The £82m transformation of Coventry Station has been completed and is set to improve the passenger experience in the future.

Avanti West Coast has worked on the project with Coventry City Council, Network Rail and various other rail operators.

Several other stakeholders including Transport for West Midlands (TWM), Friargate JV Project Ltd have also worked on the £82m project.

Passengers will now be provided with step free access to platforms one to four and a new multi-storey 629-space car park has been built.

The concourse has also been upgraded with five new retail units, waiting rooms and toilet facilities available to passengers.

The ‘Coventry Station Masterplan’ project has been partly funded by £39.4m from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Deal.

A further £27.5m has been provided by the Government’s Local Growth Fund through Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP).

Further funds have also been provided by Coventry City Council.

Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands and chair of the WMCA spoke on the improvements made at Coventry Station.

Mr Street said: “It is great to see the railway station open after all the hard work which has gone into its development.

“It is a fitting gateway for the city and I am pleased we have been able to play our part in making it happen.”
