Northern Rail encourage commuters to return to rail

Northern Rail are encouraging more commuters to return to rail as a way of travelling to and from work.

During the past 18 months Northern have made vast improvements to its network and have updated fares to reflect changes to people’s travel habits.

Latest figures show that around 40% of commuters have already returned to Northern services suggesting Northern passengers are happy with the improvements.

These figures are above the national average for national rail operators and continue to grow month-on-month.

As part of the improvements Northern have introduced new rolling stock and revamped its ticketing system.

Tricia Williams, Chief Operating Officer at Northern said: “We have delivered a programme of investment during the past 18 months.

“[This] has seen the full introduction of 101 new trains, the completion of the refurbishment of our older trains, and significant improvements at stations across the North.

“Including the installation for more than 170 Amazon and InPost lockers to provide more convenience for our customers.

“We’ve also transformed the way in which customers can pay for their travel.

“Great value fares – and Flexi Season tickets… are available through our mobile app.

“With more than 600 new ticket vending machines… buying a ticket is now easier and more convenient than ever before.”
