Engineering firm, NG Bailey, has ignited the dreams of aspiring individuals by launching its 2024 apprenticeship programme. This nationwide initiative offers approximately 70 vocational and business-based opportunities, giving potential apprentices a chance to kick-start rewarding careers and contribute to shaping the future of the construction industry.
This year's programme includes the continuation of the IT Services apprenticeship scheme. Following the success of its first year, the scheme will nurture the next generation of UK digital talent by offering two degree apprenticeships in internal auditing and digital and technology solutions.
With a rich legacy spanning over 80 years, NG Bailey has empowered over 6,000 apprentices to embark on successful journeys within the company. Many of their graduates have not only secured prestigious national and industry awards but have also climbed the ranks to hold senior management positions.
"Apprentices are the lifeblood of our business and the construction industry as a whole," emphasises Rob Smith, Group HR Director at NG Bailey. "Our industry-leading approach equips them with the essential skills, knowledge, and experience needed to thrive in their chosen paths."
"Several members of our leadership team began their careers as apprentices. This clear path to progression, coupled with the opportunity to learn alongside industry veterans who shared their journeys, is what continues to attract talented individuals year after year."
Holly Chapman, a Quantity Surveyor Engineering Apprentice, echoes this sentiment, sharing her personal experience: "NG Bailey's renowned apprenticeship scheme, with its focus on hands-on learning, was what initially drew me to the program. So far, I've been able to earn while I learn, gaining valuable industry knowledge and exploring new career options.
“Additionally, I've built strong relationships in a supportive environment that fosters both professional and personal growth."
Alongside the apprenticeship programme that NG Bailey has implemented, Network Rail and Gateshead College have launched PlanBEE Rail.
On the scheme, apprentices will complete a Level 4 higher apprenticeship in associate project management, which is designed to give them hands-on experience on some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects, including the Transpennine Route Upgrade programme, the Digital Railway programme and Northern Powerhouse Rail.
The apprentices will be based in York, Leeds, Doncaster, and Huddersfield. During the two-year programme, they’ll undertake four six-month placements working for leading employers in the rail sector.
Tim Craddock, HR director at Network Rail Eastern Region, said: “PlanBEE Rail is a fabulous opportunity to start a dynamic career in rail - it is not just a standard apprenticeship programme; it's a strategic initiative to bring talent into the rail industry by working collaboratively with our supply chain partners.”
Chris Toon, deputy principal at Gateshead College, said: “We are very proud to be launching PlanBEE Rail which will offer the same life-changing, career opportunities for those looking to pursue a career in project management within the rail sector. The PlanBEE programme has been a massive success story in the North East with 98% of our graduates securing roles in the built environment sector.”
