Siemens Mobility to deliver up to 250 locomotives in Europe after new agreement

Siemens Mobility and leading rail vehicle rental company, Railpool, have reached a framework agreement for the delivery of up to 250 locomotives.

The agreement means 70 Vectron locomotives will be called up immediately, including 24 multisystem locomotives for AC and DC networks as well as 46 AC locomotives.

The move will take Railpool’s Vectron fleet up to 228 total locomotives, with Vectron variants that can serve in as many as 16 countries on various different European rail corridors.

"The recent expansion of our modern fleet is taking place with a forward-looking focus on maximum operational flexibility for our customers,” says Railpool’s CEO, Torsten Lehnert.

“In addition to the multi-system locomotives for east-west traffic, we are adding further AC locomotives to our range, primarily for the Scandinavian corridor and the DACH region.”

Siemens Mobility says Railpool’s new locomotives have an output of 6.4 megawatts and in some cases reach a top speed of 230km/h.

The locomotives will also be equipped with the relevant national train protection systems, plus the European Train Control System.

Albrecht Neumann, CEO Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility, adds: “We are especially pleased to be continuing our successful collaboration with Railpool. Follow-up orders like this show that our locomotives impress customers with their quality and outstanding operational reliability.”

Siemens Mobility has now sold over 2,400 locomotives from the Vectron family to 96 customers across 16 nations, ultimately covering more than 900 million kilometres.
