Stadler FLIRT EMU

Stadler agrees to supply brand new FLIRT EMU fleet

Stadler has signed a framework agreement with Polish regional operator Koleje Mazowieckie to supply 50 FLIRT electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains.

The value of the contract, which includes maintenance for the next 18 years, amounts to €750 million and will be partly financed through EU funds.

The units will be delivered in four waves, with the first two waves of 14 and 11 units expected within the next two years. They will connect the people of Poland’s Masovia region with the capital, Warsaw.

Wiesław Raboszuk, Vice Marschal of the Masovian Province, said: “We are gradually replacing and modernising the fleet, building modern technical facilities, and working on launching new routes.”

“All this is intended to ensure that our residents can travel around the region quickly and comfortably.”

The new FLIRTs for Koleje Mazowieckie have a lightweight aluminium structure, are fitted with ETCS Level 2 equipment and meet TSI and crash safety standards. The spacious interior of the trains will enable fast passenger exchange, while a high proportion of units in the fleet will have a low-floor configuration, boosting accessibility.

The five-car trains will offer room for 600 passengers, with 279 seats. They are capable of speeds up to 160km/h.

Robert Stępień, President of the Management Board and General Director of Koleje Mazowieckie, said: “In recent years, the FLIRT vehicles have become a permanent part of the landscape of Masovia. We have had a good experience with the operation of Stadler vehicles and we are certain that the new trains will have an equally high or even higher standard.”

Philipp Brunner, Member of the Executive Board and Executive Vice President of the Division Central Europe at Stadler, said: “The new order from Koleje Mazowieckie brings added value to the region and the industry.

“I’m pleased that through the supply of our modern FLIRT vehicles, we can contribute to improving the comfort of rail travel in the region. I am sure that passengers on Masovian routes will warmly welcome the new FLIRT units.”

FLIRT is Stadler best-selling model, with over 2600 units sold to 23 countries. Koleje Mazowieckie’s fleet currently includes 332 units, 71 of which are Stadler FLIRTs. Just as the 50 new trains will be, they were all built at Stadler Polska’s plant in Siedlce.
