Tim Shoveller speaking at TCR Midlands

TCR Midlands 2023 successfully launches a new year of industry insight and collaboration

TransCityRail Midlands 2023, Rail Technology Magazine’s inaugural live event of the year, was a resounding success this February, seeing a plethora of industry leaders, innovators and decision-makers packed into the Vox Conference Centre in Birmingham. The day saw a seamless flow of conversations, networking opportunities and key supply chain insights being shared.

The day saw a collation of fascinating day speakers supplying those in attendance with the opportunity to hear about important issues relating to the Midlands, such as HS2’s continued expansion through England, the Midlands Rail Hub, Birmingham’s connectivity to the airport and the Integrated Rail Plan.

Speakers included the likes of Tim Shoveller, Managing Director, North West and Central Region, Network Rail, Malcolm Holmes Executive Director (WMRE), Director of Rail (TfWM), An apprentice panel discussion to celebrate National Apprenticeship week among many other influential figures.

Speakers represented the full complement of organisations we see around the UK and Midlands rail sector, from Network Rail, the Midland Metro Alliance, HS2 and Midlands Connect.

With the conversations steered by host and broadcaster Helen Fospero, there was plenty of information and excitement for delegates at Birmingham’s Vox Conference Centre to absorb.

Attendees listening to the event speakers

Seeing an untapped gold mine of knowledge being delivered on-stage, the exhibition space concurrently offered a veritable smorgasbord of opportunities for in-depth, in-person conversations and demonstrations. Members the rail network supply chain were there to showcase their services and solutions to ongoing roadblocks within the sector, offering those in attendance with valuable opportunities to network and expand their black book of contacts.

Hustling and bustling at TCR

Tim Shoveller spoke about the importance and value of the annual TCR events, saying:

“It’s fascinating to get people that contribute, people that are part of the rail sector together, because it gives people like me an opportunity to talk about the things that I’ excited about, the challenges that we have got and share some of the opportunities to talk to them and some of the supply chain partners, many of whom are here today, who have got great ideas that they can help us with to solve our problems.”

After a rip-roaring pace of expansive rail sector insights and collaboration, many of the same and some new faces returned in the evening for a delectable medley of sumptuous service and a trio of terrific food courses for TCR’s recurring black-tie evening dinner gala.

Freshly enthused about the future of rail investment in the Midlands, those attendees were then encouraged to connect and network with one another over food and evening festivities.

TCR Midlands 2023 was the place to be when it came to the future of Midlands rail – and another proud success for the TCR team. We would like to thank all those in attendance and our group of speakers for continuing to make this event the flagship space for unlocking the potential for growth within UK rail.
