Transport for Wales (TfW) has unveiled TfW Protect, a new anonymous reporting service designed to help tackle the growing problem of cable and metal theft across the Welsh rail network.
Cable and metal theft continues to be a significant challenge for the railway industry, causing delays, cancellations and widespread disruption for passengers. The impact extends beyond the railway itself, affecting commuters travelling to work, customers attending appointments, and communities that rely on dependable transport links.
The launch of TfW Protect aims to increase public awareness of the far-reaching consequences of these crimes while providing a secure and confidential way for individuals to share information that could help prevent future incidents.
Josh Hopkins, Head of Security, Risk and Resilience at Transport for Wales, said:

TfW Protect encourages members of the public to report anything suspicious, whether that includes names, physical descriptions, dates, times or even what3words locations in more remote areas.
Rail industry leaders hope the initiative will strengthen efforts to protect critical infrastructure, reduce disruption for passengers and support wider community safety. By making reporting straightforward and anonymous, TfW believes more people will feel confident sharing vital intelligence that could help prevent future thefts and keep the railway running reliably.
