Ep.14 Leaving a lasting legacy, Harriet Glen

Harriet Glen, Head of Programme Close Out at Crossrail, joins us on this week’s episode of RTM’s Track Talk to discuss the largest construction project in Europe.

Harriet gives us an update on the project that was brought to a standstill during lockdown but her “team are working around the clock to provide a detailed recovery plan.”

She also told us how and why Crossrail has led the way in, “diversifying and attracting the next generation of talent,” and why bringing in a range of thinkers from different backgrounds is so important.

Crossrail has also taken care of their employees during the lockdown, Harriet spoke about why “asking the simple question of how are you doing” is so vital.

Diversity and inclusion were also discussed, with Harriet recalling her first day at TfL and seeing an “array of grey suits.” But she told us how Crossrail have “a male ally” in the form of their CEO, Mark Wild, who has curated a board of diverse members.

With the “new normal” coming into play and “all hands on deck,” it’s clear Harriet and her team will not let anything stop them from delivering the momentous project, not even a pandemic.
