During the TransCityRail North event in Manchester, Costain led a panel discussion that included Lara Young, Group Climate Change Director at Costain, Tom Hall, Social Sustainability Principal at RSSB and Councillor Richard Watson Wearmouth, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services, Northumberland County Council.
The panel looked at what we need to do to ensure that investment in rail infrastructure delivers environmental, social and economic value for local communities during and after the time when construction has taken place.
Lara kicked off the conversation by explaining the opportunities that investment in rail infrastructure can provide and the benefits for communities and why communities should feel excited about what's going on with rail.
Tom explained how key it is to collaborate to form strong relationships with the third sector to make sure that industry and communities come together and are successful.
While Richard gave us real-life examples of the work which is currently being undertaken to improve connectivity in the North East and the metropolitan belt around Tyne and Wear.
The next TransCityRailevent takes place in the Midlands, concentrating on CP7, the Midlands Rail Hub, regional rail investment, HS2 and more. If you would like to be involved in the event, through speaking, exhibiting or attendance click here.
