ScotRail brings wind turbines to Bathgate depot

Two wind turbines have been installed at a ScotRail depot in West Lothian. The technology will save Bathgate depot almost eight tonnes of CO2 per year, producing approximately 14,000 kWh of electricity.

This should save an estimated £4,500 on energy bills each year.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, said: “The wind turbines at Bathgate are part of our continual focus on providing a more environmentally-friendly and fuel efficient railway for Scotland.

“They will have a positive impact on the environment and help us save money for use in further eco-friendly projects.”

Transport Minister Keith Brown said: “I am pleased to hear the wind turbines have been successfully installed at ScotRail's Bathgate depot.

“The turbines will help to deliver further reductions in carbon emissions as well as provide re-investment in more renewable energy schemes on our railways. This is yet another milestone as we work towards improving Scotland's railways' environmental performance.”
