RMT strike on ScotRail cancelled
The strikes planned by ScotRail staff this Christmas have been cancelled, following resolution of a recent dispute with rail union the RMT.
ScotRail tweeted that the strike was cancelled: “ScotRail trains will run as normal this Christmas” and said it was “delighted that common sense has prevailed”.
The strikes had been planned for 21-24December after RMT member Scott Lewis was dismissed by ScotRail for allegedly making “unwanted contact” with a passenger who did not have the correct fare.
The RMT demanded the reinstatement of Lewis, but on Twitter ScotRail confirmed that “the former employee will not be reinstated”.
RMT has also announced that it has secured pay increases of 3.5% for Network Rail maintenance staff.
General secretary Bob Crow said: “This deal is one of the best collective pay settlements anywhere in industry and rams home the point that while we are being told we have to accept pay cuts and freezes RMT is still out there winning inflation beating rises.”
