#UKRIA2018: The results are in...

The time you were all waiting for has finally arrived: UKRIA’s cross-industry panel of senior-level judges have had their final say on which companies, joint ventures and individuals should be in the running to receive a prestigious accolade at next year’s award ceremony.

The #UKRIA2018 shortlist, which can be found here, brings together only the best and the brightest from the country’s booming rail industry, all of which are competing to win an award across 28 wide-ranging categories.

The volume and quality of this year’s nominations have been incredibly outstanding, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by the judges either – all of whom commented on how the bar has been significantly raised right across the board.

The huge interest from the industry has also been apparent on social media, which has gone into a frenzy since the shortlist was announced. Join the conversation by using our official hashtag, #UKRIA2018.

Now in its fifth year, UKRIA continues to bring together the leaders and decision-makers responsible for running the country’s rail network in order to shine a spotlight on areas of particularly impressive innovation. After all, as rail minister Paul Maynard wrote in his article for RTM, that’s what the industry is all about.

For the next edition of the award ceremony, we have also introduced the brand-new Rail Research and Innovation Implementation category in partnership with the RSSB. As the name might suggest, this accolade will highlight the organisations that have attained outstanding research achievements and show the most drive and ingenuity in improving the railway by finding innovative solutions to long-standing problems.

And for the second year running, in the spirit of celebrating diversity, we will also be nominating both a young man and a young woman who have gone above and beyond their call of duty to set themselves apart as true leaders of the next generation of rail professionals.

As well as an opportunity to toast to your colleagues’ successes with a glass of bubbly over a lovely three-course dinner, the UKRIA event provides an exclusive opportunity to network with new and familiar faces. And, as always, we will be surprising guests with a range of entertainment that will truly bring some extra colour to an already eventful night. It is no wonder, then, that the event has established itself as a must-attend in everyone’s agenda.

#UKRIA2018 will be taking place at London’s Battersea Evolution on 22 March. To attend or sponsor, please visit our website. But be aware: sponsorship opportunities are selling out fast, so be quick!

23/01/2018Out with the old...

Despite a few disappointing policy announcements, especially for the electrification aficionados amongst us, 2017 was, like Darren Caplan writes on page 20, a year generally marked by positive news for the rail industry. We polished off the iconic Ordsall Chord (p32), hit some solid milestones on Thameslink (p40), progressed on ambitious rolling stock orders (p16), and finally started moving forward on HS2 (p14) ‒ paving the way for a New Ye... read more >
