Alstom has announced the appointment of Martin Sion as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition at one of the world’s leading rail and sustainable mobility companies.
Philippe Petitcolin, Chairman of Alstom’s Board of Directors, has highlighted Sion’s strong industrial leadership credentials and international experience. Sion joins Alstom from ArianeGroup, where he served as CEO, bringing extensive expertise in complex engineering, programme execution and large‑scale industrial operations.
Commenting on the appointment, Philippe Petitcolin said:

“We are confident that Martin will further reinforce Alstom’s execution capabilities and lead the company forward to realize the ambitions set. I would like to thank Henri Poupart-Lafarge for his long term vision and commitment to making Alstom the leader it is today.”
Sion succeeds Henri Poupart‑Lafarge, whose tenure as CEO saw Alstom consolidate its position as a global rail market leader, expand its digital and rolling stock portfolio, and strengthen its focus on low‑carbon transport solutions.
Following the announcement, Martin Sion emphasised continuity, collaboration and decarbonisation as central priorities for the group.
“I am extremely honoured to join Alstom and look forward to working with the talented teams to advance the decarbonisation of transport and deliver innovative mobility solutions worldwide. I thank Henri for his leadership and for laying solid foundations, including building a capable leadership team that will enable Alstom’s continued success.”
For the UK rail sector, the appointment comes at a pivotal time, with Alstom playing a major role across rolling stock manufacture, signalling, digital systems and long‑term fleet support. Industry observers will be watching closely to see how Sion’s industrial background shapes Alstom’s execution performance, programme delivery and strategic direction across key markets, including Britain’s rail network.
